there's this park less than a mile from my house that runs along I-10. it's where we had our district cross country meet. but i found out today, that it's also where some pueblo indians had there settlement. an archeologist has just discovered shards of pottery, stones for grinding stuff, and he thinks there a lot more stuff buried. a lot of pueblos came to el paso after the pueblo revolt of 1680. to this day there's still disagreement as to whether they came as slaves or came willingly. anyway, the pueblo revolt wasn't the end of the story. diego de vargas went back in 1692 with a war captain named ojeda, and surrounded sante fe. he offered clemency to any indians who would swear allegiance to the king of spain and convert to Christianity. most agreed, and for this reason, it's been dubbed the 'bloodless reconquest.'
