the real first thanksgiving

the colonists aint got nothin on don juan de onate.  he threw the first thanksgiving celebration on april 20, 1598 when he arrived at the rio grande just 30 miles south of el paso.  there might have even been some celebrities on hand for the festivities.  moctezuma's great granddaughter isabel was married to juan.  i figure she probably let him get settled in before she came up with the kids though.  who knows maybe even great grandpa came for a visit?

i'm confused. so, thanksgiving is on april 20th? and i thought moctezuma was just a travelers illness...

hmm...obviously i have MUCH to reap from the rich bounty of El Paso history. I eagerly await future nuggets of your blog to fill up the obvious ignorance in my head and void in my heart.
