identity crisis
the history of san eli has a bit of a plot twist in it. it was founded in 1789, SOUTH of the rio grand. thus it was spanish, and later mexican territory. however, this was before the time of major water control projects, like elephant butte which went down in the early 1900s. so the river flowed all the time. picture this...it's 1831 and it you're sitting on your porch and it starts to rain. you go inside to stay dry. it rains a lot, and the river floods. when the flood is over, and you go back outside...the river now runs SOUTH of your city. san eli was actually on 'la isla.' eventually, the treaty of guadalupe hidalgo named the deeper river bed as the boundary, and san elians were now also americans. maybe we can get the river to run south of juarez and get that too?
