the pueblo revolt

1680 was a bad year for spaniards in new mexico.  actually, a lot of years before that were also bad too.  there was a regional drought and surrounding indians kept attacking them for food.  the pueblo indians that they lived with got frustrated w them, and turned back to their native religion.  the spaniards got frustrated w them, and cracked down on their ancestral beliefs.  they hung three medicine men, and imprisoned like forty others.  when they finally got out, 'pope,' this pueblo indian guy led an attack on the city.  they killed around 400 people.  so how does this relate to el paso?  needing someplace to go, that's where the survivors went.
