
after onate made it to el paso in 1598, the spaniards kept heading north. the trail they took became known as the king's highway, or camino royal. this 1,600 mile long path connected mexico city with sante fe. should you decide to travel the whole way, with their means of transportation, it would take you six months. today, the route crosses the border at stanton, goes left at paisano, and then meets up with I-10 going north. from now on, we're all just going to refer to I-10 as the kings highway.
